CHILDREN

In order to support children’s holistic development and responsive, play-based learning in alignment with How Does Learning Happen? (2014), I will intentionally plan and implement at least one emergent, inquiry-based learning experience weekly based on children’s observed interests beginning from my first day of practice.

Strategies for Success:

  • I will complete daily observations and documentation of children’s play to identify emerging interests, strengths, and developmental needs to guide weekly planning.
  • I will design open-ended environments with loose parts and provocation-based setups that encourage exploration, curiosity, and child-led learning.

FAMILIES

In order to build strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships with families, I will communicate with families using daily verbal interactions, documentation, and at least one meaningful engagement opportunity per month beginning from the start of employment.

Strategies for Success:

  • I will share daily updates (verbal or written documentation) highlighting children’s learning, development, and experiences to promote transparency and trust.
  • I will invite families to participate in the program through ongoing engagement opportunities such as learning stories, family boards, or classroom invitations.

COLLEAGUES

In order to contribute to a collaborative and professional team environment that supports high-quality early learning and care, I will engage in respectful communication and participate actively in team planning, reflection, and shared responsibilities throughout each week of practice starting immediately upon employment.

Strategies for Success:

  • I will participate in weekly team discussions and contribute ideas, observations, and reflections to support shared program planning.
  • I will maintain open, respectful communication with colleagues by offering support, asking questions, and actively listening to feedback to strengthen teamwork.

COMMUNITY

In order to strengthen children’s sense of belonging and connection to their broader community, I will incorporate at least one community-based learning experience or connection (such as guest visits, local resources, or community helper themes) each month starting from the beginning of my practice.

Strategies for Success:

  • I will collaborate with community partners (e.g., firefighters, librarians, local workers) to bring authentic learning experiences into the classroom.
  • I will plan curriculum experiences that reflect children’s local environment and cultural diversity to build awareness and inclusion.

ENVIRONMENT

In order to create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that supports exploration and independence, I will intentionally design and adapt learning centres weekly to reflect children’s interests and developmental needs beginning from my first week of practice.

Strategies for Success:

  • I will regularly rotate and enhance materials (loose parts, natural items, open-ended resources) to promote curiosity, engagement, and inquiry-based learning.
  • I will assess the environment for safety, accessibility, and inclusivity daily to ensure all children can independently access and engage with materials.
